Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has postponed plans to collect a tourism levy from foreign visitors. The revenue raised from the levy was supposed to be used to restore and maintain local attractions nationwide as well as to cover basic insurance costs. However, amid declining arrivals from Russia and China, the tax could take a toll on the sector, officials say.
