Phuket to Host Annual ‘Turtle’ Marathon

11 September 2018

The 14th Mai Khao Turtle Fun Run Across the Sea and Half Marathon 2018 will be held 21 October at the Phuket Gateway. Organized by Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation in cooperation with JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, the annual fundraising sports event will include a 3 km Family Run, a 5 km fun run, a 10 km mini-marathon and a 21 km half-marathon – this year’s featured event.

All routes will lead northward, however, the 10 km and 21 km trails will also cross Chong Pak Phra channel, then continue into Phang Nga province. Mini-marathon runners will make a U-turn at the first large settlement in the mainland, and half-marathon participants will not turn back until they reach Baba Beach Club. The races start at 5:30 a.m.

The entry fee is THB 1,500 (US $46) per family (two adults and maximum two children aged under 12 years old) for the 3km Family Run, THB 400 (US $12) per person for the 5 km run, THB 500 (US $15) per person for the mini-marathon, and THB 650 (US $20) for the half-marathon. There is also a VIP option of THB 1,500 per person, which includes participation in any of the four runs and a guaranteed trophy. Money raised during the event will be used to protect the marine and coastal environment, including sea turtles that nest in the Mai Khao beach and the surrounding area.

Online registration is available on www.phuketsoftevents.com until 30 September. All participants will receive T-shirts and medals. The top five finishers in each race (except for the Family Run), males and females split into age categories, will be awarded trophies and gift vouchers.
