Though Thailand will mourn the passing of HM King Rama IX through November 14, state tourism authorities say that people planning to visit the Kingdom need not change their holiday plans. Most businesses and activities will operate as usual, however guests are urged to act respectfully during the mourning period.
- To express their grief, many Thais will wear black or white garments. Tourists do not have to observe this custom, but are requested to dress conservatively and modestly when visiting public places.
- Tourists are requested to behave appropriately and avoid expressing disrespect.
- Tourist attractions will operate as usual, except Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Grand Palace, which will be the venues of Royal funeral rituals until October 20.
- The government has asked that venues such as bars and nightclubs consider their business operations during the mourning period. Each owner will determine what accommodations will be made during the period of national mourning.
- Most traditional and cultural events will be held as scheduled, however some dates may be changed out of respect for the late King.
- All transport, banks, hospitals and other public services will operate as usual.
- Security measures have been enhanced to ensure public safety and facilitate their travel around the country.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is grateful to all visitors for their understanding and compassion.
