Al Meroz, Thailand's first halal hotel, aims to attract more visitors from the Middle East to the Kingdom. “There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. Just one percent of that market is enough for us to thrive,’ says Sanya Saengboon, the hotel's general manager. In an effort to support Muslim guests, a new mobile application was launched last year to help tourists find halal dining outlets and Muslim-friendly attractions. In 2015 the Kingdom welcomed about 658,000 visitors from the Middle East, a 10% increase over 2014. Room rates at Bangkok’s four-star Al Meroz hotel, which opened last year, range from THB 4,000 to 50,000 per night.
