Phi Phi Islands

There is a group of six islands known as Phi Phi. Ko Phi Phi Don (the only inhabited) and Ko Phi Phi Lee are the largest ones. Its main advantage is that its magnificent nature is not affected by human actions. Both young and family tourists enjoy the Phi Phi Islands.

Location

From administrative perspectives, the archipelago belongs to the Krabi province, but the island is about the same distance from the coast of the Andaman and Phuket: the distance is slightly more than 40 km. You can reach the islands by ferry, boat or speedboat. It takes from one and a half to two hours, depending on the transports, and takes 2.5 hours by boat from Krabi to Phi Phi (departure from Chao Fa Pier or the Nang bay).

Beach vacation

There are many beaches surrounded with cliffs on the Phi Phi Don Island. The most beautiful are Ton Sai and Lo Dalum Bays. The whole tourist infrastructure is concentrated on the coast. A popular beach for one-day holiday is Maya Bay on the Phi Phi Lee Island, the most famous place on the archipelago. The famous movie "The Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed there. There are no conveniences except the long-tail boats on Maya Bay, only nature is what you can find. The uninhabited Bambu Island is famous for its beaches.

Sights

The northern point of the Phi Phi Don Island, Cape Laem Tong differs by its beauty and diversity of the underwater world. The village of the "sea gypsies", who came here from the border with Malaysia, is at Cape.

Also, tourists are advised to visit the secret lagoon, Peel, and the Viking cave. Ancient images of elephants and different ships, reminding ships of Scandinavian seafarers, are on the walls of the cave. Locals are using bamboo poles to climb up the walls to collect swallows' nests to prepare a gourmet soup. It is supposed that the cave served as a haven for pirates.

Active vacation

Kayaking, diving, deep-sea fishing and one-day trips to other islands are offered for tourists on Phi Phi. Hikers can wander along the coastline or climb the mountains. Some of the main places for scuba diving are sunken ferry King Cruiser, Hin Bida Nok Island and Hin Bida Nai (where you can dive along the wall with tunnels, underwater visibility is up to 30 m). You can see barracuda, tuna, moray eels, rays, mackerel and sea turtles off the coast, as well as meeting tiger, blacktip and even whale sharks. Coral reefs off the coast of the Jung Island are very attractive.

Infrastructure

All hotels and restaurants of the archipelago are concentrated on the Phi Phi Don Island.

Prices

As a tourist destination, Phi Phi has not yet managed to reach the level of a resort with a longer history. Therefore, prices are affordable on the islands although the upward trend has already arisen.

Attention!

There is no public transportation, only police has mopeds. You can move between the beaches only by boat.
